Search the Clackamas County Jail Roster

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail and posts who is held there. You can search for Clackamas County inmates through the sheriff's Adults in Custody tool, which is the county's official jail roster. Oregon agencies use the term adult in custody rather than inmate, but the search works the same way. The roster shows people in the county jail right now. It does not cover state prison or federal custody. A Clackamas County jail roster search points you to booking details, while bail, mail, and visitation each follow their own rules at the jail.

Clackamas County Jail Roster Overview

The roster is run by the Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Angela Brandenburg. The official tool is called Adults in Custody. It is a live search that lists people booked into the Clackamas County Jail. The app is built with JavaScript, so it loads in a browser rather than as a plain list. The jail mail page confirms that each person's State Identification Number, or SID, can be found through this same search.

The roster only covers the county jail. It does not show people in Oregon state prison, who appear in the Oregon DOC system, and it does not show federal custody, which is tracked by the Bureau of Prisons. For those, the released inmates page lists the state and federal tools.

The roster also updates as bookings and releases happen, so a result is a snapshot, not a permanent record. A person booked overnight may appear the next morning, and a person who bails out can drop off within hours. Treat the roster as a live status check, and confirm anything time-sensitive by phone.

The county's Adults in Custody page is the official roster.

How to Use the Clackamas County Inmate Roster

Using the roster is quick once the page loads. Have the person's name ready. If you already know the SID or booking number, the search is faster. The roster shows current custody, so a name that does not appear may mean the person was released or never held in this jail.

  1. Open the sheriff's Adults in Custody page and let the search tool load.
  2. Enter the person's name.
  3. Review the matching results.
  4. Open a profile to see booking details, including the SID needed for mail.

If the tool will not load or you cannot find a name, call the jail at 503-722-6777 to confirm custody.

Roster Search Fields

What an Inmate Profile Shows

A profile collects the booking details for one person. The fields below are the ones a jail roster profile typically shows. The SID and custody status are confirmed by official pages, while the others are the standard set for a county roster.

Booking DateWhen the person was booked in

Note: A named profile was not opened during research, so confirm the exact profile fields on the live roster before you rely on them.

Booking, Bail, and Release

After an arrest, a person is booked into the jail. Bail can be posted 24 hours a day at the jail lobby by notifying the reception deputy. The person posting needs photo ID and must fill out a Citizen Bail form. The jail takes exact cash only. It does not accept personal checks, money orders, cashier's checks, traveler's checks, credit cards, debit cards, or coins for bail.

Release is not instant. A bail receipt can take 20 to 30 minutes, and physical release can take two hours or longer. The court keeps 15 percent of the posted amount as a security release fee and may apply funds to fines. If a court releases someone during arraignment, jail policy says the person is released after 7:00 p.m.

The official bail and release page lays out these rules.

See the sheriff's bail and release page for the full policy.

The same policy explains recognizance release for some non-violent cases and forced release during overcrowding.

Recognizance and Forced Release

Not everyone posts bail. A supervising corrections sergeant can release some people on recognizance, which is a promise to appear rather than money. The criteria are strict. The person must be held for Clackamas County courts on a probable-cause arrest for a non-violent misdemeanor, crime, or infraction. They must be an Oregon resident with an address, not under the influence, and free of out-of-jurisdiction holds. A Clackamas detainer or a warrant marked NO BAIL blocks the release. The person signs a recognizance agreement and promises to appear.

The sergeant can deny release if the person seems to be a community threat, and can add conditions such as no contact with victims or witnesses. Forced release is a separate tool, used only for overcrowding. It can begin when the jail reaches 90 percent or more of housing capacity, under consent decree guidelines. A classification deputy builds the eligible list, which a sergeant then reviews.

Note: A no-bail hold or an out-of-county warrant will keep a person in custody even when other release options would otherwise apply.

Visitation Hours and Rules

Visits are video relay, either at the jail public lobby or from home. Registration runs through GettingOut at gettingout.com. Visits come in 15-minute increments, and each adult in custody gets two free visits per week. The general visiting periods are the same each day.

SessionGeneral Visiting Hours
Morning8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
Afternoon2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
Evening7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

Visitors check in at the lobby with government-issued photo ID. Children age 12 or older may visit without a parent, while children under 12 need a parent or guardian over 18. A kiosk allows two children and one adult at a time.

The official visitation page covers the schedule and conduct rules.

How to Contact an Adult in Custody

Mail and phone are the main ways to stay in touch. Mail must use the person's name and SID. Get the SID from the Adults in Custody search. Incoming mail is usually delivered within 24 hours after processing, excluding weekends and holidays. Mail for someone no longer in custody is returned unopened.

The mail address format is set by the jail.

Commissary and Deposits

A trust account pays for commissary items and some fees. Deposits go through a Telmate kiosk in the jail front lobby or online. Cash, money orders, and cashier's checks sent through the mail are returned, so deposits do not happen by mail.
